#10 smartwatch comparison - Sony LiveView 2014 - top 10 best smartwatch

The Sony LiveView smartwatch has a sleek, modern design. With just a few buttons and touch commands, it is relatively simple to use, and at just over half an ounce, you'll barely notice its weight. Particularly useful is its touted ability to be removed from the included watchstrap and clipped to any other flat surface, like your sleeve or a purse strap. The watchband itself features elastic and Velcro, which is far from beautiful but is easily washable if needed.
Once you pair this Android smartwatch with your compatible phone, you need to install the LiveView app on your phone. This allows you to use the phone watch's apps for things such as Facebook and Twitter updates, and message, call and email notifications. This smartwatch also allows for plug-ins, which are third-party apps for things like Gmail, weather and more.
One particularly handy feature is the Find Phone function, which does just what it says. If you know your phone is in the area but can't find it, the Sony LiveView wrist phone watch will help you locate it. Also handy is the ability to play and control your phone's music library from the watch itself.
This smartwatch and all its functions are controlled via a few buttons on the side of the watch body, as well as four directional buttons located above, below and to each side of the face. The directional buttons are the only touchscreen-like components of this Bluetooth watch.
Unfortunately, because the Sony LiveView is an earlier smartwatch model, some of its other features are a bit limited. For instance, the watch alerts you of an incoming call, but you have to answer it on your phone itself. The phone watch only allows you to mute the call or open the call history. Perhaps most regrettably, losing your Bluetooth connection effectively renders this smartwatch useless, as it gets its time and date updates from the phone.
The Sony LiveView battery is charged via micro USB, and because it requires a constant Bluetooth connection, it needs to be charged almost daily. It also puts a bit of a drain on your phone's battery, though you should still be able to get a full day's use from your phone, provided you are not a super user.
In all, the fairly rudimentary Sony LiveView is not one of the best watch phones compared to newer models coming out today, though it still offers enough features and functionality to make it worth considering. It could be particularly useful if you are looking for a basic smartwatch that doesn't sacrifice form for functionality.

#9 smartwatch comparison - Martian Victory 2014 - top 10 best smartwatch

With a sporty silicone band and a standard analog watch face, the Martian Victory is a superb example of form meeting function. You can choose between a silver watchcase with a white, black or yellow band and face, or an all-black model. Black or white leather or silver stainless steel bands are available for purchase as well. But this smartwatch's superior design doesn't stop there.
The Martian Victory features a split face, with a standard analog clock on top and an OLED message area on the bottom – all protected by anti-scratch glass crystal. An LED light at 4 o'clock on the watch face lights up in red, green or blue to indicate various notifications, and the message center informs you when you have a text, email or incoming call (as well as who it's from).
The Leash option is particularly useful. It alerts you when the Bluetooth connection between your phone and Martian Victory phone watch is broken, so you won't have to worry about leaving your phone behind when you rush out the door – as long as you have your mobile phone watch on your wrist.
A noise-cancellation microphone provides wonderful voice-control functions. This feature is unique to Martian brand wrist phone smartwatches. You can adjust the volume on the watch's directional personal speaker as needed for alerts, or rely only on the watch's vibration. With the built-in speaker and mic, you can even carry on a conversation on speakerphone without ever removing your phone from your pocket. This feature makes it a perfect solution for hands-free talking while driving or performing other tasks.
This Bluetooth watch supports push notifications from Facebook, Twitter and weather apps, once you install the free Martian Watch Alerts app on your Android or iPhone. Another unique feature of the best Martian-brand watches smartwatches compared to their competition is that they also support notifications from the fourth and fifth generation iPod Touch and the second and third generation iPad.
General functions such as the Leash alert, incoming call alert, speakerphone and the ability to accept or decline calls by pushing a button or shaking your wrist, work with most Bluetooth-compatible phones. Advanced notifications and voice-command functions are limited to iPhone and Android phones, though Martian is working on updates to add compatibility with other operating systems, including Blackberry and Windows.
Weighing just 3 ounces, the Martian Victory has two batteries. The lithium polymer battery charges via a micro USB cable. It powers the smartwatch functions, providing more than two hours of talk time or up to seven days of standby time. The analog watch face runs on a standard watch battery, which lasts for up to two years.
The Martian Victory is quite easy to use, thanks to the fact that it has only a few buttons on each side of the watch face and basic touchscreen functionality. If you do have a problem that the Quick Starter Guide included with the watch doesn't cover, the company's website has FAQs, a user forum, a user manual and video tutorials. The Martian Twitter page is another great resource for obtaining real-time technical support.

#8 smartwatch comparison - Martian Passport 2014 - top 10 best smartwatch

Designed to look just like a typical analog watch, the Martian Passport phone watch is the ultimate example of a perfect blend of form and function. You can choose between a white leather band, which comes with the white-faced watch, or a sporty black silicone band, which comes with a black faced-watch. You could also purchase a black leather or silver stainless steel band separately. But the excellent design doesn't stop there.
The face on this smartwatch is split, with a standard analog clock on top and an OLED message area on the bottom, all of which is protected by anti-scratch glass crystal. An LED light at 4 o’clock on the watch face lights up in red, green or blue to indicate various notifications, and the message center informs you when you have a text, email or incoming call (as well as who it's from).
The Leash option is an incredibly useful function that alerts you when your cell phone and Martian Passport watch are no longer tethered together. If you leave a room without grabbing your phone, your smartwatch will let you know.
Thanks to the noise-cancellation microphone, the voice-control functions on this Bluetooth watch are second to none; in fact, Martian-brand smartwatches are unique in offering such a feature. You can adjust the volume on the phone watch's directional personal speaker as needed, or rely only on the watch's vibration. With the speaker and mic, you can even carry on a speakerphone conversation in quiet environments, like when you are driving, without ever taking your phone out of your pocket.
This smartwatch supports notifications for Facebook, Twitter and weather apps, provided you install the free Martian Watch Alerts app for your iPhone or Android smartwatch. But perhaps most impressively, the Martian Passport also supports notifications on the fourth and fifth generation iPod Touch and second and third generation iPad – a feature found only on Martian-brand smartwatches.
General functions, including Leash, incoming call alert, speakerphone and the ability to accept/decline calls by pushing a button or shaking your wrist, work on most phones with Bluetooth compatibility, including Blackberry and Windows phones. Advanced notifications and voice commands are limited to iPhone and Android phones, although Martian is working on updates to include other operating systems.
This 2.5-ounce Bluetooth watch has two batteries. The lithium polymer battery charges via a micro USB cable and provides more than two hours of talk time or up to seven days of standby time for the smartwatch functions. The analog watch itself runs on a separate, standard watch battery, which lasts for up to two years.
With just a few buttons on the side of the watch and limited touchscreen functionality, learning to use the Martian Passport should be a breeze. If you run into an issue that the included Quick Starter Guide doesn't cover, the company website has a solid support page, with FAQs, a forum, a longer user manual and video tutorials. The Martian Twitter page is one of the best resources; company representatives on Twitter are very responsive to comments and inquiries regarding its watch phones.

#7 smartwatch comparison - Martian G2G 2014 - top 10 best smartwatch

Available in neon green, sky blue, hot pink, cherry red and white, the Martian G2G smartwatch is made to be noticed. The color you choose takes over the watch's face and silicone band, while silver detailing on the retro silhouette really pops. The face itself is split, with a partially numbered analog watch on top and an OLED "message area" at the bottom. Protected by anti-scratch glass crystal, the Martian G2G is both durable and adorable. If the allover color is a bit much for you, check out the black or white silicone, white leather or silver stainless steel bands that are also available for purchase.
The Martian G2G is packed with features for people on the go. An LED light at 4 o'clock on the watch face lights up in red, green or blue to indicate various notifications, and the message center informs you when you have a text, email or incoming call (as well as who it's from).
Are you a bit forgetful? Never fear. The Leash function alerts you when this smartwatch is out of range of your phone, so you'll never again realize when you're out that your phone is still sitting at home.
The Martian G2G's noise-cancellation microphone lets you use your Android or iPhone's built-in voice controls – a feature that you will only find in Martian brand smartwatches. You can adjust the volume on the watch's directional personal speaker as needed for alerts, or rely only on the watch's vibration. Even better, the mobile phone watch's speaker and mic allow you to have a speakerphone conversation on most Bluetooth-compatible phones, including Windows and Blackberry, without ever taking your phone out of your pocket. This Bluetooth watch is great for hands-free talking while driving, putting on makeup and performing a host of other tasks.
This Martian wrist phone supports push notifications from Facebook, Twitter and weather apps, provided you install the free Martian Watch Alerts app on your Android or iPhone. Martian brand mobile watches also support notifications from the fourth and fifth generation iPod Touch and the second and third generation iPad – again, Martian is the only phone watch brand on the market that provides this kind of compatibility.
The Martian G2G's general functions, including the Leash alert, incoming call alert, speakerphone and the ability to accept or decline calls by pushing a button or shaking your wrist, work with most Bluetooth-compatible phones. Unfortunately, more advanced notifications and voice-command functions are only functional on iPhones and Android phones. However, Martian is working on updates to include other operating systems, including Blackberry and Windows.
Weighing an unbelievably light 1.7 ounces, the Martian G2G has two batteries. The lithium polymer battery charges via a micro USB cable and powers the smartwatch functions, providing more than two hours of talk time or up to seven days of standby time. The analog watch face runs on a separate, standard watch battery, which lasts up to two years.
Unsurprisingly, the Martian G2G's few buttons per side and basic touchscreen functionality make it intuitive and easy to use. If you do have a problem that the included Quick Starter Guide doesn't cover, the company's website has FAQs, a user forum, a longer manual and video tutorials. The Martian Twitter page is another great resource; representatives respond to your questions quickly and politely.
