#2 smartwatch comprison - MetaWatch Frame - top 10 best smartwatch 2014

if you're looking for a smartwatch that is both rugged and stylish, check out the MetaWatch Frame. You won't find silicone or rubber straps here; this smartwatch features a leather strap. Available in all black or all white, this Bluetooth watch also features a stainless steel case around the watch face and a scratch-resistant glass lens with anti-glare coating. The MetaWatch Frame is waterproof to an approximate depth of 65 feet.
Unfortunately, there is a small concession to the MetaWatch Frame's style. It weighs nearly 3 ounces and measures about .5 inches thick, so it's quite a bit heftier than other smartwatches we've compared. Also, it has a 1-inch-square screen with a resolution of 96 by 96 pixels, so images and text can appear a bit grainy. On the bright side, MetaWatch describes the Frame's screen as a "reflective mirror screen," which looks similar to "e-paper" displays and is easy to read in bright conditions. Because it doesn't have a battery-draining LED display, this smartwatch can run for up to a week on one charge, which is longer than most.
The MetaWatch Frame has three buttons on each side of the watch body. They control a small light that's mounted above the watch face, a built-in music app, a display of watch status (including Bluetooth connection, battery level and more), home screen displays, settings and more. The button functions change based on what the smartwatch is doing, but there are usually icons on the screen next to the buttons to help you along.
To get started, just install the MetaWatch app on your phone. You can then view widgets that display constantly updated info and receive alerts, which are accompanied by a vibration alert. Widgets include weather, stock market and calendar. Currently, notifications are limited to incoming calls, text messages, calendar alerts and "phone out of range" alerts. Email notifications are available if you have an iPhone, but not for Android users. Facebook and Twitter notifications are coming soon, according to the manufacturer. There is an app that lets you control your phone's music playback from the smartwatch, and alarms and a cycling/running app are also in the works.
Without a built-in speaker or microphone, you can't take or place calls from the Frame phone watch, and music functionality is limited to controlling what's on the phone, not actual playback on the watch. But if you're looking for a cell phone watch that just routes alerts from your phone to your mobile watch, the MetaWatch Frame is a great choice for those who have compatible phones. The MetaWatch Frame works with iPhone 4S or 5 running iOS 6 or higher, and Android devices running OS 2.3 and higher that have Bluetooth Serial Port Profile (SPP).
